Thus, at 14, after the customary pan of five years, the tow-headed youngater has come to the end of the trail as a film star. Other deals, impending how, may postpone the final result for a few months, but for all practical purposes, Jackie is ready for temporary retirement. r ... The' fate of a child film 1 star is as inexorable as death itself. When he or she passes from the “cute” stage into the age of adolescence, the movies have no more use for them. And none of the precocious little players, in all the history of Holly- ; wood, has been able to bridge that abrupt transition. The beginning of the end for |JJackie Cooper came Several yeans ago when a fan-letter, concerning one of his pictures wih Wallace Beery, told the studig:
“He’s getting too big to be kissing Wally Beery.” Jackie to-day is about five feet six Inches tall and weighs nearly 140 pounds.
