ELTHAM BOXING.

Rain Mars Afternoon’s Exhibitions.

From Our Own Reporter. Despite the rain, which made the ring as slippery as a skating rink for ‘the preliminary bouts, the open air tournament of the Eltham Boxing Association was held at Taumata Park this afternoon. For the main bout,, the/ 15-rounds professional contest between Jack Jarvis (Eltham) and Joe Hal! (Australia), the ring was covered with sawdust, but even so it appeared a:, the time of going .to press that the contest would hardly be a fair test of either man's ability. The referee was Mr R. W. Haddon of Patea. The results of the amateur preliminaries were as follow: C. Taylor (Alton) 10.0, beat G. Pepperell (Rahotu) 10.2. T. Loveridge (Tariki) 9.7, beat Fred Clarke (Hawkes Bay) 9.6. L. Pennington (Eltham) 8.10, beat J. McKay (Waipukurau) 9.1. L. Huzzilf (Tariki) 10.1, beat S. Smailes (Waipukurau) 10.2. All the preliminaries were bright bouts particularly that between Huzzilf and Smailes which was very willing. A message at 3.30 said that owing to the increased rain the main bout had beer, postponed till' Wednesday night.
