Offers to Turn Professional (Own Correspondent —By Air Mail.) LONDON, October 5. Questioned over the long-distance telephone Irom New York this morning. Ercd Perry, the Wimbledon and United States lawn tennis champion, who i» in Hollywood, re!used to deny or confirm the rumour that he has at last decided to turn professional. ‘‘l am very sorry,” he said. “I just Jo not choose to discuss the matter.” From the experience of several similar queries in the past, however, 1 gathered the impression that his reticence indicated that it might not be long before he announced that he was finally renouncing his amateur status. l)n past occasions he has always received such questions with cheerful banter, usually accompanied by a fiat demal. Since winning the lawn tennis championship at New York last month he has received several generous offers to turn professional.
