THE TURF.

FACTS AND FANCIES. Horses Worth Watching For Future. (By “Topweight.”) Weights for the big Christmas double—Auckland Cup and Railway—are out and by the time Boxing Day conies along we should see a much better field in the Cup than there was in the New Zealand Cup. Just a few to make this a great race ar*e Silver Ring, Cuddle, Master Brierly, Fioodtide, Argentic, Jonathan, Fersen, King Rey, Werohia, Dark Shadow, and Aussie Ra.

An even bigger field has been j weighted for the Railway Handicap. I There is sure to be a lot of weeding | out, but even so there is bound to be [ a large field to go to the post. With I such speedsters nominated in this I race it is almost impossible to leave | any one of the runners out of calcula- I tions, and perhaps during the next | two weeks training operations and i gallops will expose some form and ' give one an idea or two. : To-day week Woodville begins a j two-day meeting, and as the accept- | ances are not yet to hand, forecasting ! winners is naturally hard. ; I Horses which should run well at i Woodville is they accept are:—Lord Hereford, Red Rufus, Werohia, Al- I chemic, Geira, Rotoma, Haute Monde, Ingenuity, and Corroborce. SMOKE SCREEN (Limond—Curtain) is being picked by many good judges to be the conqueror of FRAN- I CIS DRAKE at Ellerslie during the I Christmas Carnival. A horse that recent racing must have improved is LOWENBERG. He ran two good races at Feilding and can be expected to beat very much ! better fields than he met there. HIGH TEST was unlucky at Wai- j kato. The first day he was drawn on his knees at the start of his race. ; It should not be hard to place this I fellow in an easier field, KELLY failed to show any form in the Alison Cup at Takapuna. His prior work madq him a well-supported contestant, but perhaps the track, which was soft, did not suit him. NAMAKIA is a very brilliant mare who will be giving some cheek during I the holiday racing. She hopped out ' in her race at Ellerslie on Monday j and led into the straight, but it. looked j as if too much use was made of her ' with her big weight. BESIEGE, who raced at Te Rapa and was given a show, will have a chance to make amends on his home track at Te Awamutu next week. MASTER LIMOND is a possible winner in Taranaki during Christmas and New Year. Almost last into the I straight in a big field at Feildin MASTER LIMOND finished well f a second placing behind INGENUI"
