Miss Molly Malone and Miss Molly 1 Whittle gave a most delightful afternoon party at Mrs Malone’s residence on Tuesday afternoon as a farewell for Miss Daphne Mann, who is leaving shortly for England. The guest of honour was wearing a navy blue ensemble with hat to match. Miss Malone had decorated the receptionroom with beautiful roses, poppies, and rhododendrons. Those present were: Mrs. R. Kirkwood, Misses M. Porritt, J. Bremner, M. Skoglund, N. Thorpe, M. Curd, Z. and O. Masters, L .Penn, R. Furrie, R. Shannon, A. Hardy-Jones, J. King, M. Purchase, J. Jackson, J. and B. Hale, J. Mark. An amusing “observation” competition was won by Miss Shannon, and the consolation went to Miss B. Hale. Miss Whittle, on behalf of those present and others, made a presentation to Miss Mann. Miss Mann suitably : replied. An apology for absence was sent from Miss C. Uniacke.
A Breakfast Idea. An alarm clock that cooks your breakfast while you sleep and then awakens you with hot coffee and toasted rolls is the latest gadget to appear in the Paris shops. This invention, which works by electricity, is but one of a thousand time and labour-saving devices on view at the Household Arts Exposition in Paris. Water and coffee beans are put in the pot and the rolls are placed in a separate container, before retiring for the night. If the alarm is then set for eight in the morning, the coffee pot and toaster will automatically start to work 20 minutes before so that the breakfast is ready when the alarm rings.
Hand-Fainted Glass. Autumn table schemes at home are enlivened by .the new handspaintied glass floating bowls in seascape designs. A raised sea-green plimth takes a clear white glass bowl lacquered with a design of coral, branches. This bowl is fitted 'With an electric bulb below, and one of the most effective ideas is to place a few. small and very decorative pieces of ocean flora in the base of the bowl and perhaps ■tiny igoldfisli. Much of the beauty of clear white glass has to do with its presentation on a vividly coloured mirror -tray, when the reflected colour mingles with the sparkling lights of tho glass.
