AMUSEMENTS.
Plaza Theatre.
With the cheerful British comedian Jack Hulbert singing and dancing his way through an entertaining story, “Jack of All Trades,” the GaumontBritish picture which is to be shown at the Stratford Plaza Theatre finally to-night promises to be one of the brightest comedies seen for some time. A happy blend of farce and comedy has been achieved, and there are few who will fail to be kept constantly amused by Jack Hulbert or the furtive behaviour of Robertson Hare. The feminine lead is taken by the vivacious Gina Malo, who is seen to advantag in several cleverlyexecuted song and dance numbers with Hulbert.
All the romance and adventure of Alexandre Dumas’ classic story will be brought to the screen in the colourful picture, “The Count . of Monte Cristo,” which will commence a season to-morrow. The central figure is Edmond Dantes, a young officer on a French ship, who is entrusted with a secret letter. The success of the film is due largely' to the sterling portrayals given by Robert Donat and Elissa Landi, who appear in the principal aprts.
King’s Theatre. Thoroughly enjoyable light entertainment is presented in 'the Paramount film “The Moon’s Our Home,” which will be shown at the Stratford King’s Theatre to-night. Henry Fonda and Margaret Sullavan have the leading roles and both individually and as a romantic team their performances are deserving of the highest praise. Miss Sullavan takes the part of a temperamental -actress who falls in love with a well known author. They are a delightfully’ amusing couple and their relationship from the time they meet consists of a series of quarrels and happy reunions. “My Song Goes Round the World,” featuring Joseph Schmidt, the farfamed “pocket” tenor, will open a season at the King’s to-morrow.
