Ban on Bathing Shorts.
Morrinsville sun-bathers are to be reminded by’ the Morrinsville Borough Council that the regulation bathing costume of the “neck-to-knee itype” must be worn by all persons attending the Morrinsville Municipal Baths. On Thursday the council received a report of the baths custodian, Mr. E. V. Cunnold, that the wearing of shorts had become very popular with men and boys attending the baths, but he did not think the patronage of the baths would be affected if the council took steps to enforce the by-law relating to costumes. In moving that the council adhere to its previous decision to ban shorts at the baths, Mr. W. Hetherington expressed the opinion that only a few persons wanted to parade round the baths in shorts. Mr. B. Chapman remarked that whereas shorts might be all right at beaches, they would not. be worn at swimming baths. The same trouble had arisen when the baths were first opened, and the council had seen fit to adopt its by-law relating to the wearing of the regulation bathing costume. The motion retaining the ban on shorts was carried without dissent.
