LOCAL BODIES’ LABOUR

Proceedings At Conciliation Council. Press Association —Copyright. Wellington, Last Night. The industrial dispute of ’the New Zealand Federation of local bodies labourers, builders, contractors and general labourers came before the Conciliation to-day.

It was agreed that all city councils, borough councils, town boards and the Mt, Roskill Road Board be dealt with at a special meeting, probably towards the end of January. To-day”s proceedings dealt with county councils, road boards, river boards, drainage boards and rabbit boards. The main demand is for a 40-hour five-day week at a minimum wage of £4 13s. Additional rates are asked for specific workers. The employers seek an 80-hour fortnight, with a maximum of nine hours a day, but they are prepared whenever practicable to work a 40hour five-day week.
