Spanish War Affects Britain NO CHRISTMAS TANGERINES (Own Correspondent: By Air Mail.) LONDON, Oct. 14. Britain may be short of marmalade next year, 'me Spanish civil war is the cause. Seville, held now by the rebels, ts the source of the Litter oranges used oy leading British manufacturers. If the orange grove* of Seville are blasted by gunlire it will be live years before another crop can be picked. British firms have sufficient stocks to last until the end of the year. A member of W. P. Hartley, Ltd., (he preserve manufacturers, said to the : ‘ Sunday Express ”:— “We hope that we may yet obtain jut oranges for. next year, which are ripe for picking in early December, fhey are carried in British ships and most of the orange producing centres ire near the seaboard.’’ It is possible that there will be no tangerines for Christmas. Lemons were sold in London this week for as much as fourpence each, L’he price of almonds is expected to war as the chief producing centres are involved in the war.
