Mawson, M.A., of the ; teaching staff of Wellington College has received an appointment on the staff of the Southland Boys' Hi<*h School. Mr. Mawson was an Otagoiiugby representative in 1913. Adams, one of the leading lay- ! men in the Methodist Church of New Zealand, and one of the foremost educationists in Canterbury, aged 77. The deceased came to New Zealand in 1862 and settled at Greendale in 1892. He was elected a member of the Education Board, being chairman on two occasions, and was elected a member of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College in 1896. He made a life work of collecting trees and shrubs from every temperate clime, and had a collection of over 800 different species. ;.;;,-,Sister,JEthel,Lewis,who returned by the Tofua, has had a distinguished career on active service. She joined up in England on the outbreak of war and served? in Serbia. For her work, there she ' received . a decoration from the King of Serbia. . Sister Lewis (who was '.previously district Native nurseat Otaki) rturned to New Zealand in. 1916, and later joined the New Zealand Army Nursing Service, and did valuable work in France, receiving further decorations. On her return the popular nurse was wearing five decorations and the gold "wound" stripe, records of her honourable service abroad in the interests of the fighting men.
