The Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting opened yesterday in splendid weather. The course was holding bon~ sequent upon recent heavy rains. In the Great Northern Hurdles, Sleight of Hand ; Paraoa, and Art fell. Results: Maiden Steeplechase, about 2-J- mile?: 1 Tenacious 1, 3 Ulster 2, 2 Bore 3. Two and a half lengths Time, 5.9. Jervois Handicap, 7 furlongs: 4 Comedy Prince 1, 3 Hinearaaru 2, '13 General Stephen 3. Two and a half lengths. Time, 1.32.. Maiden Hurdles, lj}- jniles: 1 Garryowen 1. 6 Reformation 2, 5 Lochella .3. A length;.three lengths. " Time, 3.21. Great Northern Hurdles, 2£ miles: 3 Cynic (McFlynn) 1, 2 Thrace 2, 4 Mastef Lupin 3. Also started: 9 Kau;'i nffi 6 Art, 7 Euripos, 1 Sleight-of-Hand, 5 Paraoa, BTe Onga, 10 Colonel 11 -Kinkora. Thrace led four furlongs from-home, where Cynic assumed command, winning easily by thr=w lengths. Master Lupin was two lengths -way, and Colonel Soult was fourth, Time, 4.55.
Cornwall Handicap,- 1J miles : 2 A Iterationj (Gray) 1, 1 Mangamahoe 2, 3 Bedford 3. Also started: 6 Mullingar, 10 Sir Ralph, 5 Hyllus, 4 Ml Talk, 11 raddington Green, 8 White Blaze, 7 Housewife. 9 Lady Energy. Won comfortably by three-quarters of a lengtn ; third half'a length away. Time. 2.16. Hunt Club Hurdles, 2 miles: 1 Benzine 1, 5 Swastika 2. Peneton 3. Won easily by four lenaths. Time, 4.4. Members' Handicap, 6 furlongs : 3 Mill o' Cowrie 1, 5 Escaped 2, 8 Ohinewairna H. A. neck. Time, 1.18.
