(Received June 1, 5.5 p.m.) | London, May 31. Mv Shorbt lias issued a stern warning to the police force against striking. He said the Government had decided to pay pensionable constables noi> less than 70s a week. The Government could have no dealings with thePolicemen's Union. Any striker,-! would forthwith bo dismissed and loso their pensions. If a strike occurred not only special constables but every loyal citizen should come forward and assist in maintaining law and order.

A later report states that the police situation is easier, and it is believed that a'strike will be averted.
