The election-for Superintendent, which took place yesterday, according to official announcement resulted as follows :—
The large majoiity in favor of Mr. Robinson was announced last, evening by the chairman of his committee, to a large attendance of electors, and received with hearty cheers. Several good speeches followed, in which that moderation 61 tone which finds so little example from their opponents, was with much propriety lecoiumended under 10 manifest a success,
POLICE COURT. [Before J. Poynteb, Esq , Resident Magistrate ] Saturday, December 14, 1861. 'Robert-Grey was summoned for two cows wandering at large. •; Fined ss. and costs 6s. 6d. ".Two persons were charged by A. G. IJetts with Wing guilty of riding through Bridge-street, tlierehy endangering peoples' lives. Each fined £1 and costs. Abraham Bush wa9 cliarged with keeping his house open after ten at night, hia license only extending to that hour. Edwin Edwards sworn : About half-past twelve on Monday night last 1 was down the beach on duty ""on the Government Wharf, and Was told by a gentleman there were people in Mr. Bush's taproom, Steam Boat Tavern. I went back, and found five men with himself sitting in the room ; they were drinking, from the appearance of the liquor on the table. I made a remark to Bush that he was selling liquor after hours; he turned to address me, when he nearly fell off his chair; he was suffering from drink. I called one of the constables to witness what I had seen. John Sherwood, constable, sworn : Was on duty wiih Sergeant Edwards on Monday night last, on the bench; went to Mr. Bush's house on that ni^lit, in company with Edwards. There were five people in the house, drinking; the glasses appeared about half full. It was about half-past twelve at night: defendant has. a ten o'clock license. For the defence Bush said that the Regatta Committee had rot t that evening at his house, but tlint no liquors had been drawn, after the usual hours . '* ~;,' .
