To the Editor of the Colonist.

Sin—'lnquirer' has stated in three different letters in the Nelson Examiner that we are (under Mr. Robinson's promised cheap Government) paying ,£9466 a year in puhlis salaries alone. I think that when possible, the editor should ascertain if such statements are correct before allowing them to be inserted in his paper. Had he referred to the votes aud proceedings of the Provincial Council he would have seen that including llospu.il Doctors and Nurses, Pilots and Boatmen, District Policemen, Speaker, and Members of Council, &c. &c, that the vote for salaries does not approach anything like the sum mentioned. I am, &c., CORRECT. Nelson, December 16, 1861.
