RESIDENT MAGISTRAIE'S COURT.

[Before J. Poynter, Esq., Resident Magistrate ] Wednesday, Novkmbeh 1.3. ', Henri/ Coombs, gardener, was brought up by Sergeant Edwards tor being illegally .on the premises of Mr. Shepherd, residing in the wood, and stealing his gooseberries. The magistiate, in dismissing the case, Faid it was a trumpery offence, but cautioned the defendant not to go near the plaintiff's premises again. Defendant's wife (who ia not living with him) is stopping at Shepherd's. Scott v; Foote for £12 155., for meat supplied. Defendant admitted the debt, but owing to his being out of work, and having a long family to support, he Imd fallen behind in his payments. Judgment for the amount, payable £Q in a mouth, £3 in six weeks, and the remainder in two months, including costs. Hugh Martin v. David Fulton for 15s. for rent <,f a section of land. Debt admitted. To be paid in a month. H Adams v. J. Lines for £10, being balance of account. Debt admitted. . £3 had been paid into court since the summons had been issued. To be paid in a month. W. M. Stanton v. Lyon y of Motueka, for £4 10s. A letter was produced from the defendant, admitting the debt. Judgment for the amount. To be paid in two months; A. Weycrgang v. F. Freeman for ,£2O, being the balance of an overdue promissory note. Defendant having paid £6 into court, judgment was given for £14. 8. TV. Strong v. John Baker for £8 2s. 6d. (Tliis case was adjourned' from the previous Wednesday.) Defendant pleaded a set-off of ,£22 4s. Mr. Strong, in putting forth his plea, said that the defendant agreed to purchase on the 22ud of September, 1859 some posts and rails, at 7£<l each, when he took premises from the prosecutor. Defendant denied this, and clearly established his case. The magistrate gave judgment for the defendant, ;
