Business in 'the labor market during the past week has been very brisk, The demand for agricultural and general farm servants has been much greater than the supply. The New Zealand gold-fields has influenced the laboring population, and objections are made for long engagements. A great scarcity of good female domestic servants is perceptible, more particularly general -servants ; a supply of emigrants would be a great boon just now. Engagements have been effected at the undermentioned rates, viz:— Married Couples, £50 to £65 ■Farming Men, £35 to £40 Ploughmen, £35 Shepherding ITarnilies, £45 to £55 Stockmen, £45 to £50 Gardeners, £50 to £60 Bushmen, £15 Carpenters and Blacksmiths, £60 to £85 Female Domestics, £23 to £36
