FRENCH IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.
In 1859, the commercial movement of the He Meurice and Cape of Good Hope amounted, in imports, to 18,138,473 francs; exports, 16,266,591 francs.
East coast of Madagascar, imports 1,680,546 francs; exports, 875,791. India, imports, 60,694,198 francs; ex T ports, 10,644.268 francs. Dutch Possessions, 14,437,357 francs; exports, 1,138,323 francs.
Philippine Isles, 2,276,217 francs; expoits, 534,809. China, Cochin-China, &iam, imports, 2,782,861 francs; exports, 2,619,652 francs.
Making a total of imports, 100,009,652 francs; exports, 32,079,434 francs. Besides this total, La Reunion figures for imports,. 39,021,780 francs; exports, 26,758,117 francs.
France has also purchased Indian products of Eugland to the amount ot 220,600,000 francs.
Such being the present development of the colonial and foreign trade of France, the establishment of the French line of postal steamers to the East has met with the unanimous support of the press, which declares it to be ' highly desirable that French commerce should free itself from its feudal dependence on England.'
