GARDENER'S CALENDAR FOR OCTOBER.
Kitchen.—Sow Swedish turnip, brocoli, Brussels sprouts, pumpkins, cucumber, endive, pease, broad bean, French bean, cabbage, onion, vegetable marrow, lettuce, radish, spinach, parsley, and capsicum, plant potatoes kale, artichokes; cut asparagus; be particular in keeping weeds down.
Orchard and Fruit.—Tend vines carefully, remove all insects; Keep ground clean: water newly planted evergreen trees if dry, sow melons of various sorts.
Flower.—At the end of this month sow tender annuals, kc, prick out young seedling plants, annuals, &c, train climbing piano : plant dahlia roots, destroy all insects, hoe and rake borders, hand weed small beds, and water flower beds, and newly planted shrubs (if dry).
