MRS. FORBES YELVERTON.

Ms,-J. Jukes, a Mead of the late Professor Forbes, in a letter to the Dublin Freeman, puts an,oad to several false rumors relative to the widow, now Major Yelverton's second wife :-—

?t It appears that Forbes married iD 1848, Emily Marianne Ashworth, daughter of the late. General Sir Charles Ashworth, who was entitled under her father's will to half the income which she now enjoys, and the other half will come to her on the death of her mother, Lady Ashworth. As Forbes's income was mainly derived from his scanty pay on tbe Geographical Survey, her friends, very wisely made it a preliminary to their consent Tor the marriage that he should insure Lu3 life for £3000, which very shortly after his marriage was raised to £4000. Professor Forbes died in 1854, leaving the half cf his widow's Ashworth property and the £4000 secured to his son aud daughter on their mother's death. Duriug his illness Mrs. Forbo's exhibited the greatest sympathy for her husband, In 1858 Mr.. Jukes received a letter from Mrs. Forbes, saying she was going to make a fool of herself by-marrying Major Yelverton, and saying.:—" Now I hope you and Mrs Jukes will not bate.Hie for it, but 1 cannot live alone, and it does not at all follow, that because the present ia unbearable the past is forgotten. I have not bad the courage to tell a soul except my own family; but I must tell you. . It is to be very soon ; this month. There is no use in dawdling; lam afraid of myself, and there is nothing to wait for, so it h to be soon, r.r.d very quiet—no fuss, and no finery ; just his brother and aiiae, and bis father and my ni other.

. . How tbe people will abuse me! I dread it. • Afterwards she consented to the marliage taking place earlier than she had intended, because her brother was going abroad. She also was ' afraid of herself, 5 and that if she had long to deliberate, she might retract her consent, and thus again condemn herself to a home haunted with sad memories. On the 2Gth June, 1858, threo years aud seven months after Professor Forbes's death, she married Yelverton. ■No intimation was ever given to her by any one that; amy woman claimed to bo the lawful wife of Mnjor Y. until Juno 30 (four days after the mnrmgo), when Malor Y. was informed from Dean Hams y, who had married him and Mrs. Forbes, that a Roman Catholic clergyman had waited upon him and shown him the Rev. Father Mconey's certificate. No allegation of a Scotoh marriage had then been made. Major Yo'verton and his wife's ■ brother proceeded to Ireland to investigate the alleged marriage, and the latter returned with a legal opinion that the marriage was, null and void. Major Yelverton and bis wife then proceeded together en a visit to Lord a'acj Lady Avonraore."
