WELLINGTON.
(From the Wellington Independent.)
Otaki.—Our own correspondent, in a letter dated the 17th May, says—" The Queen's Flag movement, which was commenced with such ardour by the natives connected with Mi. Hadfield's Church, is now almost a dead letter, nothing having been done further than bringing the spars to the ground oqjwhjch they were to be erected. I fancy that Te Rauparaha did not meet with sufficient encouragement when in town in the way of subscriptions ; however, I will, when I ascertain for certaiu, give you the cause of the .sudden reverse in tbe loyal feeling of the natives. A number of influential natives have informed me that they intend •eceding from the Episcopal Church and joinlog the Roman Catholic, in consequence, as they allege, of Aichdeaon Hadfield's refusal to administer tho sacrament to them because they belong to tbe King party."
Hutt Stockade.—A correspondent informs HI that the party at the Hutt Stockade was to be broken up on Saturday the 18th inst- He also States, that, " contrary to their agreement, their rations have been stopped since the 14th (Tuesday), and that they have been compelled to •serve for half-a-crown a day, since that date, and find themselves. One shilling a day per •day was also stopped from last mouth's wages," and the party consider " that they have been -unjustly dealt with."
