Young Men's Cheistian Association.— The ' New Zealander,' of the 24th ultimo, contains a report of the Auckland Association, and the awarding of prizes for the best essay on the ' Moral Welfare of New Zealand.' Mr. Walter Buller, son of the Rev. James Buller, gained the first prize, .£2l, and Mr. J. Jackson the second, £5 sa. An excellent essay, highly commended by the adjudicators, had also been received from Excelsior, of Nelson, and pronounced as worthy of somo remuneration, if the Committee could appropriate auy funds to that purpose. Mr. Buller, in reply to the chairman, proposed that a £50 essay should be competed for by the young ladies of New Zealand—the subject to be left for a Committee of Matrons ! This elicited much me riment.
