SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.

The " Prince Alfred " arrived at Port Chalmers at an early hour tliis morning. She left Melbourne Heads on Wednesday the 17th, at 1.30 a.m., and soon afterwards a heavy gale sprung up from the westward. When about five miles west of Sir Roger Curtis' Island, shipped a heavy sea over the stern broke the wheel, skylight, and a boy's leg, and did other damage; ship broached to, and split top-sail and fore-sail. Steered the ship with tackles, and made temporary wheel. At 5 p.m. anchored in Kent's Group to repair damage, and left the following day at 3 p.m. On Saturday, April 20th, at 6 p.m., caught heavy gales from the southward; shipped a heavy sea, and broke the starboard quurter boat adrift; and while endeavouring to secure her, the foremost davit broke adrift, and a seaman named Morrison, a native of Glasgow fell overboard and was drowned. The ship was goin°- eleven knots at the time, but took in sail and cruised to ami fro for four hours, but could not find either the man or the boat On Sunday heavy gales from the S.E., which continued until Tuesday evening. Lay to for 24 hours; lost 2 horses and a great quantity of sheep; split fore-sail andmizen; losteaneways; sprnua fore-boom, and the ship suffered severely Anchored at the Bluff Harbour at 11.15 a.m. on Thursday April 25th. Landed mail, 2 passengers, and 1 florae, which died in swimming on shore. Left tlie Bluff at 2p m vester day, and anchored at Port Chalmers at 3.30 this mornin^
