THE DANUBIAN PROVINCES.
It is certain (states the Nord of Thursday evening) that Austria is concentrating a corps ot 25,000 men, not on the Danube, as has been said, but at Grosswardein, a central point, from whence a watch can be kept at the same time on the Principalities and Servia, and especially also on
As regards Servia, our Paris Correspondent transmits us a piece of news which, if confirmed, is not without a certain political importance. The Austrian Government is said to be on the point of concluding with Prince Michael a treaty of reciprocal extradition in reference to the refugees of the two States. Such an engagement would evidently make Servia a vassal of Austria. The submissiveness shown by the ex-Prince Alexander Karageorgevitch to the injunctions of the Cabinet of Vienna was not less fatal to that Prince than was Austrian protection to the Italian Princes. If he follows those traditions, Prince Michael will expose himself to the loss of all Servian sympathy, whether on thp one or the other side of the Danube. Prince Couza, it is known, has been equal to nobly resisting the pressure of Austria. It now appears that. the latter seeks to obtain the same result by addressing herself to the suzerain Court. But how can the Porte, that itself never surrenders refugees to whom it gives hospitality, hinder the Moldo-Wallachian Government from resisting such vassalage towards a foreign Power ?
