IN pursuance of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled the "'Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," I, John Sharp, Returning Officer for the Electoral' District of Suburbs of Nelson, do hereby give notice that by virtue of a writ, bearing date the Third day of January, 1861, issued under the hand of his Excellency the Governor of New Zealand,. an ELECTION will be held for the return of a qualified person to serve as a MEMBER of the HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES for the said Electoral District, and that the N OMINATION of Candidates will take place at the School-house, Suburban South, on MONDAY, the Twenty-eighth day of January instant at' noon, and that tbe POLL, if necessary, will take place on THURSDAY, the Thirty-first day of January instant. A LECTURE will be delivered by -£*■ JULIUS HAAST, Esq. at the FREEMASON'S HaLL on WEDNESDAY, the 30th instant. Subject—The PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY and GEOLOGY of the Province of NELSON, especially of the West Coast District. The Lecture will be illustrated by several Maps and Sketches. The proceeds will be devoted to the completion of the New Institute Building. The doors will open at half-past 7 o'clock, and the Lecture- will commence at Eight precisely. Admission—One Shilling. ALTERATION OF ROADS. ■J^HE undersigned hereby .gives notice, •■■• that he intends to APPLY to two or more Jus- ■ tices of the Peace having jurisdiction within the Province of Nelson, at.a sitting to be held on MONDAY, the 11th day of March now next, at the Court House, Richmond, for an order for STOPPING UP the un-der-mentioned Roads; and further, that he will cause a Survey Plan of the roads proposed to be stopped up, together with a Book of Reference and Estimate, to be deposited, on or before the 28th day of January next, ■with the Clerk to the Magistrates at Richmond, and with Mr. GEORGE WALKER, Constable for Waimea West. _ ■ To stop up a certain road in Waimea-west, commencing at tho north corner of Section 119, and proceeding 66 chains in a south-west direction, 35 chains wesfc-north-west, between sections 137. 138, 140, and 5. Also that road, 34J chains long, lying between sections 5 and 7, commencing at the south corner of Section 7, and terminating at its western corner.
