THE ELECTIONS.

We have very good reason to believe that, iii order to mystify electors as much as possible, and to further the devious policy of their particular friends, or rather patrons, some individuals have industriously circulated a report that recourse will be had to another province to furnish a member for one of the seats in the representation, of this. Although the gentleman so named would be a credit to any constituency, we assure this community that no such intention exists, and that there is every probability that members of liberal views and estimable principles will be? returned for the next session by way of contrast to the last. We have just received a note from Motueka, in which it is stated that 'the electors of this district are bestirring themselves preparatory to the coming elections for the General Assembly; and a requisition is in course of signature to Mr. Charles Parker, M.P.C., to allow himself to be put in nomination as a candidate to represent the district. The requisition is already numerously signed, and a committee has been formed for the purpose of ensuring Mr. Parker's return should he allow himself to be put in nomination. In the Waimea districts likewise we hear that active exertions are being made to secure the return of Mr. Saunders.

The Golden Bay District is highly favored: three candidates are already named—men of mark too, either as entities or non-entities. We have heard a fourth named—one who whilome figured in our Provincial Council.

For the Suburbs Messrs. Weinyss and "(rVastney are said to be the candidates.
