POLITICAL APATHY.

To tlie Editor of ihe Colonist. Sib,—The apathy and indifference that seem to exist among many of the electors, in reference fo their political privileges and duties, have suggested to me the necessity of forming committees in the different districts, tjnat should becentresfor diffusing political information and for exciting agitation when necessary to make the public voice felt And respected.. Were such a "political union: in existence we should no longer hear such remarks as, " I sliall not vote, they do just as they like with us, send who we will." Once get the people united and intelligently informed on political subjects and the tables will be turned. Among other things the system of deferred payment for land will be brought about, and the prostration that has taken place in so many cases by people being compelled to borrow money at a ruinous rate of interest to pay the Government for their land will cease, and a more healthy state of things generally will prevail. Governments are the servants of the people, and like all other servants, they want looking after, or they will just suit their own turn, rest at ease, and neglect the people. Look at the combinations in England that are found necessary to keep the Government to its duty, and prevent encroachments on the liberties of the people—Political Reform Associations, Voters Protection Societies, and so forth ■; and combination is just as necessary in the Colonies. Hoping tci see the matter take some practical form, I am., ' Yours, &t\, J. G.
