It is proposed to establish in Nelson a second Building Society, to be called THE PROVINCIAL LAND AND BUILDING SOCIETY; the object of which is to enable shareholders by payment ot a small fortnightly or monthly subscription, to draw from tie Funds of the Society a certain sum of money, _by means of which they may become the immediate owners of freehold property. Shares, £25. FORTNIGHTLY PAYMENTS 2s. 4 Entrance Fee, for first share, 2s. 6d., including Pass Book and copy of the Rules, and for each additional share, Is. Number of shares unlimited. The shares to be realised by tender. Members may withdraw their shares, with interest at 5 per cent, per annum. It is estimated that the probable duration of the Society will not exceed five years. PURSUANT to the provisions of the -*• " Education Amendment Act, 1858," his Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified, that the ANNUAL RATE imposed by the said Act upon all Householders residing within Educational Districts, will be LEVIED on THURSDAY next, the Ist day of November, and that the same will be received at the following places, between the hours of Ten, a.m., and Four, p.m., viz.:— Court House, Nelson, by the acting SergeantMajor of Police; School-house. Clifton-terrace, Suburban North, by Mr. Alexander Wragg; School-house, Stoke, by Mr. E. Austin; School-house, Waimea East, by Mr. W. Strange; The aforesaid Act requires that " every householder in each educational district shall pay, annually, twenty shillings, and a further sum of five shillings for every child of such householder between the ages of five and fourteen years: Provided always, that no person shall be liable to pay for more than four children, nor for any child residing more than three miles from any school established under this Act; nor for any child attending any school not established under this Act, in respect of whom such person shall produce to the Collector a certificate, signed by the teacher of such school, showing that such child has attended during the three months previous to the levying of the rate.
