RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, Sept. 23. [Before J. Poynter, Esq., Resident Magistrate.] George Higgins was summoned by Captain Levien, of the steamer Rapid, for assaulting Alfred Brown on board that vessel. Fined 40s. and costs, 10s. 6d. John Anstice, baker, v. James Drew for £11 11s. 7d. for a dishonored bill due September 4th. Judgment for the amount; with costs and interest up to the day of payment. John Percival v. John Ladd for £11 1s. 11d.— Half to be paid in one month, the other in two months. . Alfred Helps v. Pratt and Scott for £7.— Debt not admitted.
A. Helps sworn: This was a case of collecting an account; an order was given me from the late Mr. Kite; he said Pratt and Scott owed him money, and gave me an order on them ; they paid £8 on account on the day of payment, and on the strength of defendants' promising to pay the amount, he paid it out of his own pocket. Alexander Stewart sworn: Received £8 on account of the order.
Judgment for the amount, with costs. Bush v. Rattan for £1 14s., and F. Rose for £1 13s. Judgment for the amounts. Bush v. the representative of the late Mr. M'Hardy for £5 7s. 6d. Nonsuited. Hough v. Frank for £7 6s. 3d. To be paid in a month.
