Night Signals.—Last night au experiment was made on the esplanades outside Government House Gate with three signal lights prepared by Sergeant Corless, of the Royal Artillery, in the presence of Colonels Kenny and Balneavis. The lights were similar to the blue lights used by ships of war, but exhibiting a paler and more vivid flame. The ground was illumined for a considerable distance— the barrack wall being distinctly visible—whilst the light itself was undoubtedly a very striking object a great way off. It would be idle to expa' tiate on the value of such signals. The first lighted burnt for two minutes and a-half, but the time can be extended. Their manufacture is highly creditable to Sergeant Corless, and we hear the experiment is about to be repeated in a few days, and upon a more extensive scale.— -New Zeahnder. Shea v. Brown.—This was an action brought by John Shea of the 'Allied Arms,' in Albertstreet, Auckland, an inn-keeper, against Charles Brown, bailiff of .the District Court at Auckland, for, having on the Gth day of June last, under a warrant directed' against the. goods of Elizabeth Macshean, entered the plaintiff's house, stopped his business, and seized his goods. It appeared from the evidence adduced that the defendant retained possession of the plaintiff's premises, for six days, and afterwards sold plaintiff's goods on the morning of the 13th June, and that the goods in question were the property of the plaintiff. Evidence was also given as to the value of them. The jury, after a short deliberation found a verdict for plaintiff. Damages £7115s,— New Zeaknder.
