LONDON WOOL REPORT. May 15, IB6o.—At fche Liverpool sales, held in April, about 12,000 bales Port Phillip were offered and sold at an advance. Reduction on the London sales of March of 2d. to 3d., the better descriptions in the absence of foreign competition declining under 4d., the whole of the wools selling irregularly, and with dullness. It is to be regretted thafc these sales were brought on afc all, and merchants have found to their cost that any attempt to supply the intermediate demand between the London periodical sales, which should fairly be left to the dealers, will almost of a certainty produce failure. The large concessions thus made to the trade caused extreme dullness in the north, and a general feeling prevailed thafc the London ssiles would open at a reduction. The advantage of the Londen market was apparent afc opening sale ori the 3rd of May. The attendance of buyers, both home and foreign, was very great, and bidding animated, and the decline quoted on the average of March sales was—Port Phillip, Id. to l£d.; Sydney, £d. to id.; other descriptions about Id. From Stabler's Circular, May 7, the total amount of shipments in April, was £721,339, against £758,180 in March, showing a decrease of £37,175. Tne total for the corresponding month of April, 1859, was £857,312, showing our present exports to be less by £135,973. Prices of wool may be quoted at a decline of about Id. per lb. on the average of last sales. The exports to Melbourne for the month of April amount to £347,378, against 411,654 in March, showing a decrease of £64,276 To Sydney and Moreton Bay :— The total amount to these places are £270,570, against *228,473 in March, and in April, 1859, showing increase of £42,097 in the former, and a decrease of £5297 in the latter.
