It will be remembered that some^ time ago we announced that a party of diggers had left Canterbury in a •mall vessel for the West Coast, to search for auriferous ground; and very recently we gave an account of their arrival at their destination. The greater portion ef this party arrived in Ntlson with Mr. Mackay's men. Five of the diggers had left the main body nine days'previously fbr Collingwood; all trace of their route was lost upon the arrival of the second party at the Heaphy: it was therefore conjectured that they had proceeded by way of the coast. Upon their arrival at Collingwood they found that the five men had not reached there; two Maoris and some white men were therefore sent in search of them,
The vessel which took them was to have returned for them at a specified time; but the time having elapsed .without her appearing, the party was compelled by bad weather to return overland;: , S YyZ, : 1
We believe that no gold, haSibeen obtained, but strong hopes are, heldJovit that it abounds in the locality of the'Buller.; \':\
