We regret that space will not permit more lengthened extracts from them in this issue, but our readers will doubtless be anxious to be informed as to the "probable ways and means," and as to the " probable expenditure," and we therefore give these items as they stand. < Pbobable Ways and Means. Under the head of Special Appropriations— which are to extend over 1860, '61 and '62—we find the following:— Steam Dredge for Harbors of Queensland £10,500 Electric Telegraph to frontier near Warwick 10,000 Towards building a Government House 10,000 Ditto ditto Legislative Chambers ...... 3,000 Balance required for completion of Gaol 14,000 : : ■ ..- £47,500 These items are to be provided for, as required, by advances from the Union Bank of Australia, Brisbane, at 5 per cent, interest.
It is estimated that 9000 pianoes are made every year in the United States, giving constant employment to 1900 persons, and costing above 2,000,000 dollars. <
