The Government Gazette, of Juue 9th, has the following announcement: —"Auckland, 9th June, IB6o.—His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to make the following appointments in the Nelson Volunteer Rifle Corps :— Lieutenant-Colonel Commanding, LieutenantColonel Matthew Richmond. Date of Commission, 30th April, 1860.
Ist Company—Nelson.—.W. T. Li Travers, to be Captain; Samuel Kinjrdon, to be Lieutenant; Herbert E. Curtis, to be Ensign. Dates of commission—3lst March', 1860. '
4th Company—Suburban North.—James : Sfackay, sen., to be Captain ; Arthur S. Collins, to be Lieutenant ; Daniel Slater, to be Ensign. Dates of commission—2Bth May, 1860.
sth. Company—Motueka.—Frederick Horneman, to be Captain.;. Charles Pocock, to be Lieutenant; Graham Greenwood, to be Ensign. Dates of commission —29th May; 1860. . . 6th Company—Waimea East.—George Sparrow, to be Captain ; Charles Muntz, to be Lieutenant; Robert Malcolm; to be Ensign. ■ Dates of commission—3oth ilay, 1860. 7th Company—Waimea South.—John Wilson, to be Captain; David Warnock, to be Lieutenant; John Squire, to be Ensign. Dates of commission—3lst May, 1860. Bth Company—Waimea West.—N. G. Morae, t©be Captain; John Ayers, to be Lieutenant; Charles Redwood, to be Ensign. Dates of commission—lst June, 1860.
Nelson Militia.—The Government' Gazette of June 9th. has the following announcement: — " Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 9th June, 1860.—-His Excellency the Governor has been p!eased to make the following appointments iv the Nelson Regiment of New Zealand Militia:—Major Matthew Richmond to be Lieutenant-Colonel. Date of commission, 30th April, 1860.—John William Lockett, to be Captain and Adjutant. Date of commission, 30th June, 1860." The No. 1 Company of ■ this regiment was drilled a second time yesterday ; there were about fifty present. West Coast Coal.—-The same Gazette contains Mr. Tatton's analysis of the West Coast Coal, which appeared in our paper some weeks ba:k.
Nelson Volunteer Naval Aetillery Company.—A special meeting of this" corps is advertised to be held at the Trafalgar Hotel, on Friday evening next. The members, we. hear, are daily increasing, and the rules for the guidance of tire members are already printed.
Bazaae and Concert. —Our readers need hardly be reminded that tomorrow the Bazaar of the Taranaki Aid Society will be open at the Odd Fellows' Hall. A Concert in connection with the same object will take place, on Thursday, at the Masonic Hall. A moot attractive bill of fare has been provided; and bumping houses are expected on both days. :
Town Rates.—This is the last week allowed by the Board of Works for the payment of the town rates. Legal proceedings are threateued against all defaulters. '.. v
