Correspondence.
To the Editor of the Colonist.
Sir —Your readers have been entertained for some months past, and doubtless •■will continue to be so for some time more upon the subject of Italian affairs. There is a historical point which is apparently ignored by many, but which is most essentially connected with it, and for the better knowing of which I beg the favour of furnishing the public with the summary of the subject in two short letters. My object is not to emit here any political opinion upon present circumstances, but merely to acquaint the public with facts connected with Italian affairs, and leaving them to draw whatever conclusion they may choose. Much has been said about the Pope's temporal power, the Pope's dominions,! or the States of the Church: I will therefore give a brief account of the origin of those temporal dominions. Yours, etc., Historicus. Nelson, May 26th.
