»i ' Colonist Office, Thursday evening. During the past month business has b:en depressed to an extent greater than is often experienced, and all classes of trade feel the dullness. There is no direct English vessel to report, but the Neilly and Constantine are Bhortly expected from London. With some exceptions the market is fully supplied, hut certain seasonable goods are wanted.

Brandy of first quality is very scarce. Tea is much wanted, and shipments per Neilly have been sold to arrive. English soap and raw coffee wanted. Imports from Sydney have Buppljgd the market with general groceries, except loaf sugars, of Which the place is bare.

Judging by the increase of goM sent from Massacre Bay we may assume the mining districts are progressing favorably, and as the storekeepers have long ceased to grant injudicious credit once so prevalent, it probably operates to produce a moro healthful state of affairs. The arrangements of the Nelson Gold Mining Company are drawing to a completion, and it is expected their investment of capital may realise a return afc the end of ■ next month, which will be productive of benefit to the interested parties juid to the laboring classes.
