CRICKET MATCH.
The return match between the Wakefield and the Nelson Mechanics' Club.s was played on Monday last in Air. Lewthwaite's paddock, Toi-toi Valley. Befog' a public holiday, the visitors1 mustered very numerously, and the greatest good humor, prevailed on all sides. The Mechanics having won the toss, took the bat, to the bowling of Messrs. Schroder and Norris. The first three wickets went down quickly j but by some careful batting the score was run-up to 74. Wakefield then tried their luck with the bat, but were, quickly disposed of by Messrs. Pratt and Harris for 54. The betting then became very much in favor of the Mechanics, who had all along been the favorites, and we heard as much as 2to 1 offered on them In the second innings the Mechanics could make but little stand against the bowling of Messrs. Clark and Arthur Baigent, and when the last wicket fell they had added only 42 to their score, leaving Wakefield only 63 to get to win, and the betting turned in their favor, but the b.o.wljng was.too good for them, and they obtained only 3€, thus losing a well contested match by 25 runs. ■ The bowling and fielding on both sides were exceedingly good, considering the roughness of the ground, especially the long-stopping of Messrs. Tunnicliffe and Waters., : The .following is the score. NELSON MECHANICS, pint Innings.' ' ■'' Second Innings. Rtallard, c Alf. Baigent, b, Schroder Q c§t b .Arth.
