FOttWAItDED FROM ALEXANDRIA. The Board of Trade returns for July are satisfactory, The Bank of England has just announced a dividend of 4| per cent, on the halfyear. The Money Market continues remarkably quiet, with adequate supplies. The general rate is a fraction below the Bank minimum of 2£ per cent. The Bank's reserve bullion, which was diminishing for many weeks, is greatly augmenting again. Consols, after temporary depression consequent on the disastrous news from China, have recovered from 95ijr to 95f, the exact prices at which they stood last mail. . . The imports of the precious, metals during the month have amounted to £345,168, and the exports £3,171 157. Continental exchanges are favorable and steady. There has been a panic in Austrian securities at Vienna and Amsterdam. Australian . securities maintain their ground. , Victoria Railway bonds command three per cent, premium, as the quantity disposed of at the price is insufficient for the Government. Hobson's Bay Railway shares are in good favor. Corn is drooping. Tea has advanced considerably, and large quantities have changed hands within a few days. The price of tallow has been unnaturally enhanced by the operation of Russian speculators. Two failures have already occurred, and others are antciipated. Some of the German houses will suffer by these suspensions, but London does not appear to be involved. Prices have declined in the highest point about 9d. per cwt., the present quotations being 575, on spot, and 575. 3d. for last three months. No stock of American tallow in London. Australian hides in more demand, with upward tendency. To New Zealand eight ships have cleared against four in July, but their cargoes are lighter than usual. In addition to the above we report the clearance of steamer Royal Bride from Bristol (via Cork) for Melbourne and New Zealand.
The Wool Market continues firm, with an advancing tendency. Buyers are willing to purchase at a small advance; holders, however, are not disposed to sell except at a profit of 1 £ per lb. The following names appear in the Obituary of the month . —
