The captain gave them in charge on the plea of disobedience. The Resident Magistrate, on hearing the particulars of the case, told the caDtain he feared he could render him no assistance, as he (the Magistrate) considered he was asking the men to do more than their duty; had any vehicle been provided by which the coal could have, been .removed from the vessel to the carts and the men had refused to assist, then he would have: 'committed' them to gaol, but as it "was he could not interfere; the men had better go on board and assist in every means in their power to discharge the cargo.
