HAWKE'S BAY.

By the Haivke's Bay Herald we learn that the Provincial Council met on Saturday, the 23rd ;. ultimo, for the purpose of electing a Superintendent. Two candidates were proposed, Captain ! Newman and Captain Carter; who each received five votes; the numbers being, equal, a compromise was at last agreed to % which both can* didates were set aside, and Mr. Fitzgerald was elected the first Superintendent. Mr, Ormondi was elected the Speaker of the new Council.
