Ball at the Lunatic Asylum.—We are glad to see that Dr. M'Gauran, in his system with regard to the management of lunatics, is determined not to be behind that pursued in the old country with so much success. The ball on Thursday evening last proved how salutary is the effect of gentle and reasonably indulgent treatment of such patients It went off with the greatest possible success, and not only the patients, but the numerous visitors who were present, really seemed to enjoy themselves greatly. Of the latter,' Mr. Alexander, a late arrival amongst us, conduced more particularly to the general success by the able and obliging manner in which he took a lead in t lie vocal and instrumental part of the entertainment,- and we have no doubt but that Dr., M'Cxanran's. patients will long remember him in, connection' with, an.agreeable and, we have no. hesitation in saying, as'far as their mental sfate is cwerned, a beneficial evening'a amusement.— So'ith'im Gross.
