Correspondence.
To the Editor of the Colonist,
Sir,—ln your publication of Tuesday, April sth, a correspondent writes the detail of the Cricket Match played between Motueka and Riwaka. 1 beg to state that he writes from prejudice; not from good principle. Ist. He states that two Motueka men were m— Knyvett and Croucher. The ball off Knyvett's bat struck the latter's wicket; but he omitted giving an illustration of the ball's transition off the bat to the opposite wicket. I will endeavor to give you an illustration of the ball which put Croucher out: —The ball, in passing along the play about two feet out of the line of wicket, glanced off the palm of W. Aske\v's lianfl into Croucher's wicket, while he was off his ground endeavoring to get a run. 2nd. That the Riwaka umpire gave Croucher out. On.the contrary, it was the Motueka umpire, and several of their men, which gave him •out. 3rd. He insinuates that if Croucher .had not been put out, the best of the match w#uld have been on the Motueka side. If your correspondent saw the match played, or. compared the innings minutely, his ideas must be very vague if he could not see that Motueka was unsuccessful throughout the second innings. SPECTEMUR AGENDO. Riwaka, 11th April.
