A small vessel can come alongside the coals, and by some expense in deepening the river, a large vessel can. Rise and fall on the bar at spring tides, 16 feet; neep tides, 8 feet: or the coals may be boated, or a tram or railroad run 5 miles, to the Tata, where vessels of any draught can go and come at all times and tides, and lay in safety. The Produce of the Takata Valley would be shipped also, and. it would, be, and pay for the ■ making of, one of the most important districts in New Zealand. The top "seam of coal lays from 6 to 12 feet below the level of high water mark, and is roofed over with solid rock, so that miners can drive "without fear; no props or. roof-wanted. But there is wanted enginemen, tools, &c., and money to pay the men with. It is one of the most convenient mines in the South Seas, and probably the best, but that cannot "be told until it is ■ wrought and used. For further particulars, apply *o .
