To start at 11, a.m. Distance, 10 miles outside the harbour. A MATCH between CARGO BOATS. First boat, a prize in cash of £%. No time for tonnage in this race. Entrance fee, 10s. " To start gt 12 o'clock, noon. Distance, 20 miles. A MATCH between vessels of 50 tons and under, for the NELSON CHALLENGE CUP, value 50 guineas, to be sailed for in Blind Bay, at the NELSON ANNUAL REGATTAS, by boats not exceeding 50 tons, belonging to any of the New Zealand Provinces. A prize of £10 10s. will, be awarded to the winner of this match for the first time. Entrance fee, £3. The matches for the Cup to be sailed in accordance with the rules of the Nelson Yacht Club, under the direction of the Sailing Committee for the time being. The distance, out and home, not to exceed 20 miles. A quarter of a minute per ton allowed to all vessels of inferior tonnage. The bona fide owner of a competing boat from any of the sister provinces will be deemed an honorary member of the Club for the occasion, and, as such, be entitled to all its privileges. The Cup to be awarded to the owner of the boat that shall be declared the winner of the match for two seasons. The race to.be finished by sunset, or again contested on the Tuesday following. To start at 2 p.m. Distance, 2 miles. A MATCH between all 2-OARED BOATS not exceeding 20 feet keel, for £lo.los. Second boat, £3. Entrance fee, 15s. To start at 3 p.m. Distance, 1 mile. A ROWING MATCH, between DINGIES not exceeding 13 feet keel, to be pulled by one man with a pair of skulls. First Prize, £3 ; Second ditto, £1 10s. Entrance fee, ss. . . THURSDAY, February 3. To start at 12*15 p.m. Distance, 1 mile. A MATCH between 2-OARED BOATS not exceeding 20 feet keel. First boat, £7' ; Second. ditto, £2. The winner of the Match for 2-oared boats on Wednesday to give the other boat ■which pulled in that race 50 yards. Entrance fee, 10s. To start at 12, noon. Distance, 20 miles. A MATCH between VESSELS not exceedingso tons, for the NELSON YACHT CLUB CUP, value 20 guineas. Second boat, £5. Time allowed for tonnage. The winner of the Match for the " Challenge Cup" to allow the other vessels of less tonnage an additional quarter of a minute per ton. This match to be won before sunset, or again contested on the following Monday. Entrance fee, £2 2s. To start at V3O p.m., inside. Distance, 10 miles. A MATCH between all COASTERS. First boat, aglO. No time for tonnage in this match. Entrance fee, 15s. To start at 4 p.m. Distance, 2 miles. Under canvas. A MATCH between all DINGIES, not exceeding 15 feet keel. First dingy, £3 ; Second ditto, £1 10s. Entrance fee, ss. REGULATIONS. - No person not a subscriber of at least 10s. to the Regatta Fund will be allowed to enter a boat for any Match. No open boat to be allowed to sail for the Challenge or Yacht Club Cup. No aliding-keel yachts will be allowed to enter. All racing boats shall keep the flag-boats and other distinguishing marks on the port hand. All yachts may carry any and what sail they please, but will not be allowed to use oars, or throw ballast overboard after starting. All water ballast to be fresh; no sand or shifting ballast to be allowed whatever. Boats on the port tack to bear up for boats on the starboard tack. Boats running free to keep away for boats on a wind. Any boat, wilfully fouling another to be considered distanced. Each boat in the various matches to carry a distinguishing flag (at least a foot square), to be named on entering, and which must, in sailing vessels, be kept flying during the race. * All yachts and sailing^ boats must have all sail on deck at the time of the firing of the gun for starting. A distinguishing flag will be hoisted at the peak of the starting vessel, to denote which match is about to commence, viz.:—First race, No. 1 Marryatt's Code, and so on. . . . ' The gun for starting will be fired precisely at the hour named, when the distinguishing flag will be immediately hauled down. Disputes occurring in any match must be made known to the umpire at the conclusion of the race. The decision of the umpire, assisted by the committee, in all matters shall be final. In drawing for stations, No. 1 will take choice, and the rest in rotation. . . . ■ . Entries to be made for the various matches under sealed cover, enclosing entrance fees, to the Secretary of the Nelson Yncht Club, Marine Hotel, at or before Six o'clock p.m. on Saturday, 29th January, or pay double entrance fees. All entrance fees to be appropriated to club purposes. No public money will be given unless two or more boats, the bona fide property of separate owners, do start. The prizes will be distributed by the Treasurer, on Monday, the 7th February, nt the Marine Hotel, at Two o'clock p.m. In all sailing matches three guns will be fired; the first to take stations, the Becond to prepare, and the third to start. .
