WELLINGTON.
The Comet.—Although the time of appearance and position of the comet now visible corresponds, nearly with those of the expected great one of 1264 and 1556, still its observed motion in the heavens does not correspond with the path of the latter, which we gave in our last publication, for whereas that wa3 in a northerly direction across the north pole ofthe heavens, this one is travelling to the south-eastward, along the edge of the sign Scorpio across ,the ecliptic -at an angle of 30*"^. The following distances have been observed: — • Saturday, 16th October, at 7h. 30k. Antares 11° 20' Altair 57° 57' Delta or 34 Sagittarii 37° 55' Sunday, 17th October, at 7»; 30m. Antares .-. &° 18' Altair .- .56° 33' Epsilon Sagittarii.'....:....;... .30* 23 Monday, 18th October, at 7h. 30m. Venus .... .- .6° 58** Tuesday,-19th October, at 7h. 30m. -Antares .5° 12' _ Altair..... 55° 13'; 35 Scorpio 17* 9' Epsilon Sagittarii 23° J 51' Wednesday, -20th .October, -at 8 p.m. A1tair..............................54° 38' 35 Scorpionis ..." 14° 18" Achernar 87° 40* - Friday, 22nd October; at 8 p.m. Altair: 53° 56' 35 Scorpionis 9° 26" Achernar .; „82° 44.: — Independent. . . . The Beach Road.—The f state of the Beach" is now no longer a~reproach, it is one of the things that were, and is being so effectually set to rights, that with a little judicious looking after, the roadway will keep in good order for the next' three years. The cuttings at the extreme end of Moles-worth-street are now through, and being mettled, so that shortly we may expect to see the whole extent opened for regular traffic.— lndependent, October 20.
