The Independent of the 9th instant reports as follows:— Business is veiy quiet;.and little doing in the market.
There have been three sales this -week, consisting chiefly of colonial produce, groceries, &c, at following quotations:—A quantity of coal from 255. to 265. per ton; potatoes at 61. ss. do.; whalebone 2501. do.; half-chests tea at SI. 55.; chests do. at 61. 65.; Co's pieces 46Z. to 501. per ton; loaf sugar at 7,Jd. per Ib.; treacle at 30s. per cwt.; Adelaide flour at 22^per ton ;- sperm candles Is. 3d. per lb.; salt (fine) from 61. 105. to 71. per ton; maize Bs. per bushel; Roman cement 2s. 6d. per barrel; candied peel 2s. per lb.; Patna rice 25Z. per ton; oatmeal 4d. per lb.; colpnial flour 161. 105. per ton; potatoes from 161 155. to 11. per ton; brandy at 13s, per case; old torn 9s. do. The Mills.—Owing to recent heavy importations, flour.has slightly declined in price, and the market is dull. The following are the prices quoted at the different mills, viz.: Schultze's mill—flour 211. per ton; sharps,. 3s. per hundred lbs.; wheat Bs. to 8?. 6d. per bushel; bran Is. 6d.< do. Kebbell's Steam Mills— flour 20Z. to 21Z. per ton; sharps 10s. perlOOlbs.; whent Bs. to Bs. 6d. per bushel; bran Is. 6d. do.' Vegetables.—-Potatoes are now fetching from 7s. to 9s. per cwt.; cabbages Is. 6d. per doz.; brocoli from 6d. to Is. per head; asparagus Is. per bundle. Butcher's Meat. —The market has been tolerably well supplied this week with beef, mutton and pork. Beef and mutton are selling at from 4d. to 6d. perlb.; veal 6d. to Bd. do.; pork Bd.' do.; lamb 7s. 6d. per quarter. : Building Materials.—Sawn timber, boards from 16s. to 19s. per 100 feet; Kauri pine 235. do.; scantling from 12s. to 17s. per 100 feet; bricks 31. lOs. per 1000; lime 3s. 6d. per bushel. . The following are the prices at which a few of the leading articles are selling in this market: — Ale and Porter—Bottled, from 12s. to 13s. per doz., duty paid. ' - Candles—Belmont sperm, from Is. 6d. to Is. 7d. perlb. Sydney moulds, 9d. per lb. '. • Coals—English 51. per ton; New South Wales do. 31. 10s. to 41. . Coffee—Raw from llf to Is. per lb.
