• ■■■■ The 25th of February is definitely fixed for the trial of Orsini, Pierri, Rudio, and Gomez, on tlief charge of attempting to murder/the emperor. Orsini and Pierri have written to M. Jules^Favre to say that they have chosen him for their counsel. Forty witnesses have been subpoened. , r ~.'-.. . . Numerous addresses frqm thre regiments jof the army Have been published, promising the eniperor that in case of the calantity of his death they will be faithful tp his dynasty...., The addresses of all the regiments that have hitherto taken part in this demonstration are in sabstance identical. But many of them contain allusions to England: which have here caused the .^highest > displeasure. Thus, in the address of the sth Landers w,e find this sentence :— ■
" " The army is afflicted" that powerful frierids, whose 1 * brave armies so Jately combated by our sidej cover .-.with their protection, under the name of hospitality, conspirators and assassins who exceed those who have gone before them in all that is odious." ■ ;■ - - ,

Hardy, colonel df the' 59th regirtieot of the line, contains.this passage.:— . ■.

The Penal Bill has' been amended in com-: mittee, and, in its modified' form, it was pre-i serited to the Legislative Bddy on the 13th of February. One of _the most important- alterations relates to the manufacture )of " murderous machines", and "fulminating? gunpowder.", The penalty for him who manufactures, or for him who causes to lie manufactured without being ; legally is the same—namely; from - six months' lo five years'- imprisonment and from 50 francs to 3000 francs fiiie.-■•?
