ROYAL BRITISH BANK.
The trial of the Directors of the Royal
British Bank commenced on the 14th of Febru-
ary, before the Lord Chief Justi.ce and a special jury, in'the Goiivi of Queen's Bench. The^ novelty of the indictment and tlie previous position of the accused naturally excited the ' greatest interest; A. considerable time before the comafencement of the trial the whole area of the court was crowded. There was a very full attendance ofkwyers. All the defendants were .present except Cochrane. The Lord Chief Justice entered the cquit accompanied' by the Prince of Wales, who. took his ssat ou jhis lordship's right.- Several ladies also, atnbng whom were Lady Oversion'e and Miss Jones Loyd, occupied seats on the bench. Sir F. Tliesiger opened the case fo;r the prosecution.at great length, recapitulating very clearly the whole history of the bank. At the close of his address, Paddison, one of the solicitors to' the bank, and Gatherer, a share-registrar in the bank, were examined, and the proceedings adjourned. •
