WAIRAU.

Pursuant to a notice inserted in the Colonist and Nelson Examiner newspapers, a Public Meeting was held at the Court House, Beaver, oh Sa-, turday, the Ist May, to consider the necessity of taking some steps to promote Education in the Wairau District. Dr. Muller was called to the chair, and the following Resolutions were proposed and carried without a dissentient voice:—

Proposed by Mr. Eyks, seconded by Mr. G. WrfATT, . ,' " . 1. " That .this meeting considers it lughly desirable that some steps should be taken towards promoting Education in the district of Wairau," Proposed by Mr. Paterson, seconded by Mr. Soper,— .... . • - 2. "That the' Chairman be authorised to jvrite to the Central Board of Education in Nelson, requesting that a portion of tEc Wairau district, comprising all the'said district below the Delta Hills, may bo proclaimed as an Educational" District under the Nelson Education Act."

Proposed by Mrl G. Wuatt," seconded by Mr.' Budge,— 3. " That a vote of thanks be given to Mr. Soper' for his public spirit in bringing1 .forward the Educational question in the Wairau." Proposed by Mr. Sinclair, seconded' by Mr/ Paterson,—

4 " That a copy of the foregoing resolutions be sent to the Colonist and Nelson Examiner newspapers for publication."

A public meeting was held at the.Court House, Beaver, on Saturday, May Ist, to take into consideration the formation of a Library in the Wairau district, W. H. Eyes, Esq., in the chair, when the following Resolutions were proposed and carried unanimously: — ■ • Proposed by Dr. Muller, seconded by Mr. Simmbnds,— 1. " That it is desirable that a Library should be established in the Wairau district." Proposed by Dr. Muller, seconded by Mr. J. Sinclair, — 2. " That the following, gentlemen form a committee to draw up regulations and to collect subscriptions for the formation of a Library in the district of Wairau, viz.:—The Rev. H. F. Butt, the, Rev. J. D. Nicholson, Messrs. Sinclair, Muller, G. Wratt, Budge, Soper, Paterson, Sim 7 monds, Wyiien, Picton, Dalziel, with power to add to their number."
