A fourth-edition of the Liverpool, Cdurier, published on-the .evening of the, 16th, Janu- ; ary, -notes the arriyaljOn the afrernoon of that day, of ..the Persia, from Nevv Y^k. Her American dafres are .to the 6th January, and the greatet portion of the intelligence just reaching us has; be^n anticipated by the Whirlwind.
The performances of the Persia during a portion of her passage appear to have been remarkable, "s =She: steamed (the Courier says) during the last four days the extraordinary distance, of 1344 miles> 380 of which were accomplished? during the last. 24 hours up to, noon to-day^a feat unequalled hitherto by auy ocean steamer afloat. , The Persia has on board nearly 2,000,000 dollars in specie. She brought sixteen of. the crew of the British ship Devonport. Amongst her passengers was Mr. Cyrus W. Field, the chairman of the American committee of the Atlantic Telegraph Company.
