SPRING GROVE.

The Annual Meeting of {he Spring Grove Mechanics' Institution was held at the school-room, Spring Grove, on Thursday, the 18th instant, but in consequence of the harvest not being yet over, it was not so numerously attended as it otherwise would have been; nevertheless, the room was pretty well filled. After the tea was removed, Mr. J. Bird was called to the chair, who, after stating the object of the meeting, called on the Secretary to give the meeting any information which, from his position, he was in possession of. The Secretary had much pleasure in informing the meeting that things upon the whole had a much better appearance now than when he had the pleasure of addressing them some six months ago, inasmuch as the Treasurer now had ,£25 in hand for the purchase of books, and at the last meeting they were considerably in debt. The class of books most wanted were good standard works, as he considered there was quite sufficient light reading already in the library. The number of readers was about the same as at the last meeting, but he had no doubt that as the institution was made more attractive, so would the members increase. The Rev. D. Dolamore, in addressing the meeting, felt considerable interest in the prosperity of the institution, as he thought it would be attended with good results, more especially to the young, if they confined themselves to reading really useful books. The meeting was addressed by a number of gentlemen, who all enlarged on the benefits which must accrue to all who interest themselves in institutions, of that kind. The following resolutions were carried unanimously. Moved by Mr. A. Saunders, seconded by the Rev. D. Dolamore :—■ " That lectures upon various useful subjects be delivered in this school-room on the first Monday evening in every month.'1
